Private Party/Film Screening: March 13, 2010
In the midst of scoring a silent gothic thriller film, my thoughts have been preoccupied with visions of candlelight foreshadowing death, lucky pendants, and families broken by social status and secrecy. I have dedicated the past month to gory visions, timing on-screen murders with appropriate percussive force, and asking myself to forget for moments that turn into hours how much I really do love my life.
I knew that life as a film composer must be intense, but I wasn’t sure quite how it would feel waking up at 3:45 a.m, compelled to write a counter-melody that tied well into the Dies Irae theme I had composed months ago while in a particular state of consternation. (The literal translation for Dies Irae is “Day of Wrath.”) Bone chilling, to say the least.
Now, I am pleased to celebrate the results of my midnight scoring sessions with a private party and film screening. I hope you can join me for this celebration! - Carter
